Opportunities for Parents

We believe that children are always most successful when they know that parents and teachers are working together in their interest. We value your positive support in everything we do. We hope you will be interested and enthusiastic about your child’s work, seeing that homework is done carefully and on time.

Several events taking place each year, including Harvest Festival, Christmas celebrations, consultation evenings, open evenings and seasonal sporting events.

There is a formal parents’ consultation evenings in the Autumn and Spring terms, and an informal meeting if necessary after reports are sent to you in the Summer term.

We would also actively encourage parents to see us at any other times should problems arise, whether they be work related or social concerns. A little problem to you is often a big problem to your child. Please contact the teacher to arrange an appointment.

We also welcome any parents who can spare an hour or two to help in the classroom or with a small group elsewhere in the school. By helping in school, you are helping to raise the standards of education. You do this by giving extra personal attention to the children and giving teachers a chance to spend more time working on things which will help children to achieve better results. There are lots of ways you can help in school. What you will actually do depends on what is needed at the time and also on your own interests and skills. Whatever you do, we will give you as much information and guidance as possible. If you would like to see our Child Protection Policy please click here.

You can support us and get involved by:

  • hearing children read
  • working with groups of children on work set by their teacher
  • helping in the library
  • photocopying
  • helping in lessons such as needlework, art and games
  • displaying children’s work
  • covering and repairing books
  • helping with school trips
  • attending school functions and social events
  • joining our Parent & Staff Association (PSA)
  • becoming a parent governor

We are very reliant on parental help to provide enriching activities for the children.

The celebration of the year’s work culminates in our school open evening, held in July. It is an excellent opportunity for children and parents to realise how much progress they have made during the year.
