ADMISSIONS and APPEALS

The admission of all children, including those with disabilities, will be managed in accordance with this policy. Our number to admit is 60 per year group. There are no plans at present to amend this number however at the authorities request we would be able to increase to 90 per year group in the future.
Please feel free to contact us if you would like your child to attend our school, we can further explain the process and make an appointment to meet you and your child too. We are always happy to meet prospective new parents and pupils, to show you around our school and answer any queries you may have.
Applications for admission to Giffards Primary School should be made through Thurrock Council Education Department, who can be contacted on 01375 652883. Applications can also be submitted on-line via www.thurrock.gov.uk/primary-school-admissions/applying-for-primary-school-place
Admission into EYFS/Reception
If you are interested in your child starting school at Giffards, we would love to hear from you and show you round the school. In the autumn term each year we offer a number of parent tours during the school day so you can see the school in action and how our children learn and thrive. These are led by the headteacher who is happy to answer any questions.
When applying for an EYFS place you need to Apply online to Thurrock via https://www.thurrock.gov.uk/primary-school-admissions/applying-for-primary-school-place
You will need to create a login account to complete an online application.
Upon receipt of an offer for a place in our Reception classes from Thurrock Council, we will contact you directly. As part of our transition for all new pupils, we will invite you to some induction sessions in the second half of the summer term, dates will be sent to you once we know who is joining us.
In-Year Admissions
For all other year groups, an induction tour with the Head Teacher or member of the Senior Leadership Team is arranged prior to your child joining us. Appeals
If your child's school admission application is unsuccessful, you may wish to appeal against the decision. Details of how to appeal will be given on the refusal letter.
Thurrock Council do not provide an admissions appeals service.
Appeals for our School are arranged by Essex County Council, you can appeal online at Essex County Council. Further information about the appeal procedure is available from the School Admissions Team as per the above contact information.
Admission to Secondary Schools
At the start of your child’s final year with us (Year 6), Thurrock Council issue information about how to apply for secondary schools. As soon as this is received in school, we will pass this to you. Schools hold Open Evenings, where you are invited to attend and view their facilities. Applications must be submitted by October half term. We would advise you to list as many schools as possible on your application. Once places are confirmed to parents (usually March) we will start to liaise with the secondary schools to ensure a smooth transition for all of the children.
